CALLING PROCEDURE

1.    Select "Channel  9" and 1 watt ( low ) power.
2.    You say three times:
               
"Name of ship being called"
                "THIS IS ( your ships name and call sign ),  OVER"

                        Note:   If no answer, wait two minutes and call again.
3. Answering Vessel:
       
"( Your ships name)", THIS  IS ( called ship and call sign), OVER"
4. You say:
       
"Called ship,  SWITCH TO CHANNEL  _____, OVER"
5. After your conversations you say:
       
"THIS IS  ( your ships name and call sign ), OVER"
6. The called ship says:
        " THIS IS  ( called ship ), ( call sign ) , OUT"
This ends the transmission and each ship should return to channel 16 for monitoring purposes.

FCC Notes:
4 When boat is underway, monitor channel 16.
4 Limit exchanges on channel 9 to one minute.
4 Limit exchanges on working channel to minimum practical time.
4 Avoid illegal 'Radio' or ' Time of Day' checks or 'Smart-aleck' remarks.
4 Avoid using 25 watts ( High ) power when 1 watt ( Low ) power will suffice.
4 Use Call Sign when initiating and ending a call ( where necessary ).
4 Keep the ship station license on board to show authorities.
