Commodore's Welcome

Welcome to the web site of the Northwest Sailing Association.

We are a 27-year-old organization located in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. The NWSA is not a yacht club, although we have more than 60 sailing vessels of various sizes from 9ft to 41ft registered with us. We are not a racing organization. However, many of our members have other affiliations, which afford them an opportunity to race. And, we follow the fortunes of the "Americas Cup" as avidly as any other sailing organization in this country. We are not devoted to sailing instruction. Yet, much of the fun of sailing with any of our many captains has come to those who are in their earliest experiences in a sailboat on the water.

What we are is a plain, straight forward group of seasoned sailors and neophytes, who simply love to socialize and learn as well as teach their sailing skills at harbors and inland lakes all along the south western shore of Lake Michigan. Most of us don't own our own boat. And, we may not intend to. We're always welcomed as crew however by those who have one and are frequently looking for an extra pair of hands. . Once each year we stage a long week end approximately 200 miles up the coast in Egg Harbor, Door County.

However, if we can't or don't want to make it to any specific event, we're not too concerned -- The club organizes these things about seventeen times a season. Our dues are nominal and there's no year round levy at the bar or dining room to support the club. Once a month we gather in Arlington Heights, IL to do the club's business, hear an interesting program and enjoy each other's company

If you think you might find this kind of a group fun to be part of, chances are you’re right, you will. So, come on down to the Arlington Heights Historical Society Meeting Room at 110 W Freemont Street in Arlington Heights on the third Monday evening of any month of the year (except November or December.)

We're always ready to swap some tall tales about what happened out on the lake last weekend and make some new friends.
