DIRECTIONS FOR
TRANSMITTING A DISTRESS CALL
If you are in distress
( when life is threatened by grave and imminent danger ) transmit the
International Distress Call as follows:
1. Speak slowly -
clearly - calmly: A. Make sure the
radio is on. B. Select channel
16. C. Press microphone
button and say:
MAYDAY -
MAYDAY - MAYDAY
THIS IS
Your boat name: ____________________________

Your call sign:
____________________________
( optional in the United States ) 2. Tell where you are
and what navigational aids or landmarks are near. 3.
State the nature of your distress. 4. Give number of
adults and children aboard and condition of any injury.
5. Estimate present seaworthiness of your boat.
6. Briefly describe you boat:
